Author Q&A

1.What do you like to do in your free time?
I spend the majority of my free time with my family. I am very active at my daughter’s school and on the weekends, we’re always finding things to get into. We’re big movie buffs and enjoy all that NY has to offer from its museums to parks.

2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
Coming from a music background, my music tastes are somewhat diverse. However I would say my favorites are hip hop and R&B – particularly old school and 90’s hip hop because that was what I was bred on. I like a lot of the new stuff too but there’s a lot of it that I can’t take.

3. What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
I’m truly a movienista so it’s really hard for me to name my all time favorite film. I rent a countless number of films – both independent and major motion. However, some of the ones I like best are Menace II Society, The Notebook, Scarface, and Baby Boy.

4. What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
Again, that’s a hard question. I read so much fiction and non-fiction that I really can’t give you an all time favorite. I must say that I truly enjoy the work of Eric Jerome Dickey and Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez. And of course, my book, A Girl’s Gotta Eat is on my list as well. (smile)

5. What do you like best about being a writer?
Since I guess I am somewhat of a control freak, I love the idea of being able to write about people whose words and actions are 100% my creation. Bringing characters to life that personify whomever I choose them to be is a tremendous amount of fun – particularly because you can never do that in real life.
