The Shadows
L. A. Banks

The Dark Realms are taking cover after an angel onslaught from On High. The Anti-Christ has been injured and the fourth Biblical seal has been broken. Yonnie and Val, a strange combination of a daywalker and an angel hybrid, have joined Damali and Carlos’s team. And the two new Council Level vamps Elizabeth Bathory and Lucrezia Borgia are still in recovery from their last mission.

Seething in the underworld is the Unnamed One, so furious, that he's bringing the battle topside, unleashing a full-frontal assault on mankind for the offenses committed by the Neteru squad. This time, the Guardian team must address serious human casualties and collateral damage...all while Nuit rebuilds Blood Music to become more than a record label, but a media brainwashing empire for the dark lord.

Author Q&A

1. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to hang out with family and friends at a great house party--BBQ, beer, music... or go to the movies--I LOVE THE MOVIES. And the crazier action/adventure flick, the better!  But my ultimate thing is, I love to travel. The Caribbean is sacred space for me. :)

2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
I listen to a wide variety of music to match the range of my moods and emotions.  I can listen to something as wild as Pit Bull "Miami' (Culo -- ha ha ha), then get deep and listen to Seal or India.Arie or Kindred, then go toward Terrell Carter, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, or Celine Dion, then double back on some Yung Joc, Yin Yang Twins, and raw hip hop, then go straight Kirk Franklin or Yolanda Adams, with Mary Mary.  It depends on what I'm writing, where my head is, and how I'm feeling on any given day. :)

3. What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
That's hard... I would have to answer that question based on category.  For vampire flicks, I'd have to go with Frank Langella's Dracula, but from Dusk Till Dawn, for the comedic value is a strong runner up, then Salem's Lot for the real chill factor.  For action flicks, I loved Alien and Aliens (the classic line, "Game over, man!" Loved that!)  But then there are flicks like Gladiator, Independence Day... the list goes on. And how can you leave out The Sixth Sense, or Like Water for Chocolate or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Kill Bill 1 & 2, stuff like that?  I guess I like films the way I like music--eclectic, wide range... Come on, Sin City is a classic, then so is Scarface -- see, I can't decide!

4. What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
I'm not even going to try this one, LOL... because of all my vices, my bookshelves are so ridiculous it isn't even funny!  (Same dealio there, too—eclectic, wide range of tastes from non-fiction to fiction titles.)

5. What do you like best about being a writer?
I LOVE building worlds, getting lost in them, and allowing the characters to run away with the story... seeing where "they" go.  It's an incredible journey when it happens the way it should--and I love to write what I like to read and see in flicks.  So the process is very close to having a mini-series running in my head, LOL.  (That didn't come out right--now I really seem crazy.  The secret is out!)

Reader’s Guide Questions For
The Darkness
Book 10 of The Vampire Huntress Legends Series

1. What did you think of the implications of the Unnamed One being able to attack Father Patrick in a cathedral?

2. How do you think the dynamics of the Neteru/Guardian compound will change now that there’s a civilian (Delores) and a young child (Ayana) on the premises?

3. How do you feel about Yonnie’s situation and his relationship to Valkyrie?

4. What about the addition of female Council Level vampires to the equation—do you think we’ve heard the last from these women?  (Follow up question: do the female vamps seem/feel more treacherous than Fallon Nuit and Sebastian?)

5. In this book, did The Light seem significantly stronger than the darkness—or would you call it a draw?

6. Did you like/dislike seeing the upper realms of The Light working together and seeing some of the majesty of that place (Mid-Heaven) as much as you enjoyed seeing the lower realms?

7. In this legend, just like there are senior Guardians that seem to run the team, in this book there are “lead” Neterus on both the Kings and Queens Councils… did you like seeing them come together on behalf of Carlos and Damali?

8. What about the addition of some Biblical characters like Abel and Seth—did you like seeing them added to the battalions of The Light?

9. During the recovery scene where Carlos and Damali were given twenty-four hours hiatus, did you feel that this couple’s relationship went to yet another level?  (Also, how did you feel about Damali needing sedation after all these books and battles?)

10.  How do you feel about Damali’s pending pregnancy?  (What are the dangers, implications, issues?  What do you hope she has; a girl or a boy?)
