Q&A
1. What do you like to do in your free
time?
I love to hang out
with family and friends at a great house
party--BBQ, beer, music... or go to the movies--I
LOVE THE MOVIES. And the crazier action/adventure flick,
the better! But my ultimate thing is, I love to travel.
The Caribbean is sacred space for me. :)
2. What kind of music do you like to listen to? Why?
I listen to a wide variety of music
to match the range of my moods and emotions. I can
listen to something as wild as Pit Bull "Miami' (Culo
-- ha ha ha), then get deep and listen to Seal or India.Arie
or Kindred, then go toward Terrell Carter, Beyonce, Mariah
Carey, or Celine Dion, then double back on some Yung Joc,
Yin Yang Twins, and raw hip hop, then go straight Kirk Franklin
or Yolanda Adams, with Mary Mary. It depends on what
I'm writing, where my head is, and how I'm feeling on any
given day. :)
3. What's your all time favorite movie? Why?
That's hard... I would have to answer
that question based on category. For vampire flicks,
I'd have to go with Frank Langella's Dracula, but from Dusk Till
Dawn, for the comedic value is a strong runner up,
then Salem's Lot for the real chill factor. For
action flicks, I loved Alien and Aliens (the
classic line, "Game over, man!" Loved that!) But
then there are flicks like Gladiator, Independence
Day... the list goes on. And how can you leave out The
Sixth Sense, or Like Water for Chocolate or Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Kill Bill 1 & 2,
stuff like that? I guess I like films the way I like
music--eclectic, wide range... Come on, Sin City is
a classic, then so is Scarface -- see, I can't
decide!
4. What's your all time favorite novel and/or writer? Why?
I'm not even going to try this one,
LOL... because of all my vices, my bookshelves are so ridiculous
it isn't even funny! (Same dealio there, too—eclectic,
wide range of tastes from non-fiction to fiction titles.)
5. What do you like best about being a writer?
I LOVE building
worlds, getting lost in them, and allowing
the characters to run away with the story...
seeing where "they" go. It's
an incredible journey when it happens
the way it should--and I love to write
what I like to read and see in flicks. So
the process is very close to having a
mini-series running in my head, LOL. (That
didn't come out right--now I really seem
crazy. The secret is out!)
